KENYA : Airtel Kenya and KDN entered into partnership.

Airtel Kenya said that it has joined with infrastructure provider, Kenya Data Networks (KDN) to improve its transmission network to launch its 3G network in April. The firm s low cost strategy aims the huge market, with the network, which is will provide high speed mobile internet access, mobile video conferencing and videophone, amid other services which it cannot offer with its 2.5G system. As per the five year partnership, KDN will inter-link Airtel sites through its national fibre optic network.

Airtel Kenya Managing Director, Mr Rene Meza, said that the service will make enlarged mobile internet speeds for Airtel mobile consumers. Both corporate and personal consumers will get advantages from amplified speed and coverage. This will enable customers to have more multimedia applications and experience better operation of current applications, as well as real-time video conferencing. With the 3G launch, users can download videos, images and music faster. And, in addition access to email, games and performing financial transactions faster.

Airtel has partnered with IBM, Nokia Siemens and Ericsson to launch the 3G network. It also plans to invest $250 million to expand its network in the country.
