Progress Software Names Dan Potter Vice President, SonicMQ Product Marketing.

Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading supplier of application development, deployment and management products and services, today announced the appointment of Dan Potter to vice president, SonicMQ(TM) product marketing. His responsibilities include worldwide marketing of the award-winning Progress(R) SonicMQ Internet messaging server. He was most recently director of Internet technologies at Progress Software.

SonicMQ is based on the Java Message Service (JMS) specification, part of the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) standard from Sun, which provides a common set of messaging concepts and programming strategies enabling Java(R) developers to add enterprise message capabilities to their applications.

The first standalone JMS server from a major software vendor, SonicMQ has won several awards, including Java Pro magazine's Readers Choice Award for Best Java Messaging Tool, Best Java Middleware from attendees at the SIGS Conference for Java Development, and a World Class Award from Java Developer's Journal.

Before joining Progress Software, Potter was the vice president of marketing for Narrative Communications, an Internet multimedia advertising solution enabling e-commerce and branding. He also spent eight years at Oracle Corporation, most recently as senior director, marketing, for Oracle's New Media and Internet Products Division. In this position, he helped to define Oracle's role in electronic commerce, interactive multimedia and the Internet. Previously, Potter held the position of director of product management at Oracle, where he lead the company's efforts in the interactive television market, including set-top, network computer (NC) and emerging consumer devices.

Potter holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire.
