Vic: Injured man airlifted after being disovered by passers-by

A man spent the night in near freezing conditions alone inside Victoria's Alpine National
Park after a motorcycle accident late yesterday left him unable to move.

He was found this morning by 4WD enthusiasts, who used a Global Positioning System
device to help guide a rescue helicopter to the injured man.

Rural Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman JODIE GUEST says the man suffered head and chest
injuries after crashing on the Wonnangatta Track, in the state's north-east, about 4pm
(AEDT) yesterday.

He was discovered about 9.30am by members of a four-wheel drive club, who put a message
out on the Australian 4WD Radio Network.

It was picked up by a member in St Marys, Tasmania, who in turn contacted authorities.

The man, in his thirties, remains in a serious condition in Melbourne's Alfred Hospital.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the overnight temperatures in the region were between
five and seven degrees celsius.
